Background
Veta is a native Russian Shadowhunter, born and trained in the Moscow Institute under her parents and the other Shadowhunters there. She has a natural aptitude for languages and speaks Russian, English, Latin, French, Spanish and Mandarin fluently. She's very intelligent and driven to find facts, and finds no use in fiction or fantasy. Despite this attitude, she's witty and an excellent conversationalist.

Veta met Alex when he and Raja arrived in St. Petersburgh at the end of their world tour. She had moved there after the death of her father at the hands of demon two years prior, and was one of the first to welcome to the Institute. Raja sensed an immediate connection, but before she could do anything, Alex had already asked Veta to go out with him. Surprisingly, she said yes.
Veta grew to like Alex a lot, and perhaps even loved him. They became as close as they could be, sharing everything between them. She fell in love with him through their shared love of knowledge, and his enthusiasm about their heritage. About two years after Alex arrived in St. Petersburgh, Veta got pregnant. Some of the other Shadowhunters looked down on their situation since they weren't married, but after consultation with Raja, Alex was ready to propose.

The situation never arose though, because their daughter Anastasia was born nine months later, healthy and beautiful. Only a few days after the birth, Veta insisted on going out with a patrol to get back into her good habits. Unfortunately, she was attacked by a vampire and killed almost instantly. Her death shocked Alex to the core, and he moved back to Idris with Anya almost immediately.
